Gathering and identifying the correct information from a wide range of sources will strongly inform a psychological formulation, ensuring that appropriate care and treatment is provided by the most relevant services. This is where the initial assessment process, as detailed in Chapter 3, becomes very important, laying the foundations for a young personâs journey of care. Therefore, if autism is suspected, identified or is already present, we must not rule out further co-morbidities, considerations and risk (physical and mental). We will cover this aspect in the next chapter.
